I’m not sure where I came across the Tune-Yards a few weeks ago, but I’ve been digging the new album, Nikki Nack. I just found this clip of a live performance they did for NPR in 2011. I really like the simple and creative on-the-spot loop creation combined with the incredibly rich construction of melodies and harmonies.
I’m no hater of drum machines, especially those made of Legos.
Matt Johnson Reflects on Jeff Buckley’s “Grace”
Grace is one of my all-time favorite albums, and Matt Johnson’s playing on it continues to inspire me. The Al Foster-influenced fill in “Mojo Pin” that Matt refers to is one of my favorite moments on the record. Very interesting insights here.
